Other metals need to be mixed with it in order to make the gold more durable and also to reduce its cost. A lot of times it also allows metallurgists to change the color of gold by mixing it with other metals. For instance either nickel or palladium can be added to create white gold. If you want a rose tint you can always add copper. Adding silver would produce a greenish tint and so on and so forth.

There are also instances when gold is applied as a coating onto a much less expensive metal. This helps in reducing the item’s cost.
